Free Baby Blanket Knitting Pattern: Softly Striped
Simple and sweet, the Softly Striped Baby Blanket features seven shades of Heather’s Heathers washable merino wool yarn.
This new yarn’s subtle tones knit together into a gorgeous blanket anyone would want to cuddle up underneath!
The Softly Striped baby blanket knitting pattern uses 95 yards of each of seven colors of yarn. The blanket is designed to be knit with a worsted weight (#4) yarn to create a finished size of 24 x 28” or approximately 61 x 71 cm.
I put together three color combinations using the new Heather’s Heathers yarn – one is the Rainbow version shown in these photos and then there’s a lighter tones version called Sweetness and a richer tones called Softness.
Softly Striped is simply knitted and new colors are added after every 30 rows. For a tidier edge, slip the first stitch of every row as if to purl then continue knitting the row as normal. On a row with a new color, be sure to knit all the stitches to have a smooth color transition!
Knitting with color is so much easier than you think! This EASY striped baby blanket is knitted using 7 different colors and it's entirely garter stitch (knit every row). Plus there’s a full video tutorial on this blanket knitting pattern!
My sister, Nancy Queen of NobleKnits designed this blanket knitting pattern with an accompanying video that shows you how to change colors, count rows, and weave in yarn ends in garter stitch. Awesome!
