EXTRA NOTES
This cowl is knit flat, starting at the long bottom edge. As such you can use your preferred needle length; a circular needle is not required.
Written instructions are provided for the entirety of the cowl. Optional charts are provided.
This project uses mosaic knitting to create colorwork motifs. Only one color will be used per row. You can leave the unused color hanging at the edge of the work until it is used again. Do not break yarns unless instructed; this will save on yardage and ends to weave in.
When choosing colors, consider that all of the colors interact except for Colors A and D, (i.e., are adjacent to or are used in a mosaic pattern). So if you love all 4 colors, but don’t want two of them to be next to each other, make those two A and D.
When swatching, use Color A. It uses the least amount of yardage within the project and offers plenty for swatching.
Questions you might have
What's in the kit?
You'll get 4 skeins of Ewe So Sporty in the four colors you choose, plus the Ewe Heart Cowl pattern by Meaghan Schmaltz. Needles (US 4, 32” circular, or your preferred length), two locking stitch markers, a tapestry needle for seaming, and blocking pins or combs aren't included.
I can't find my pattern. What should I do?
The pattern is included with your kit. If you'd like a PDF copy too, you can find it on the Ewe Heart Cowl pattern page, or email hello@eweewe.com with your order number and I'll send it right over.
Is this kit right for me?
This is a Level 3 project. The cowl is knit flat and seamed, with simple lace hearts and mosaic colorwork hearts. Only one color is used per row, and written instructions and optional charts are included, so it's a good fit if you like a pattern that holds your hand. If you get stuck, our Knitting Knowledge tutorials and the Secret Society of Knitters community are here to help, or you can email me.
Will the colors look like the photo?
Screens vary, so a color can look a little different in person. If you're unsure about a combination, email me before you order and I'll help you choose.
Should I order extra yarn?
The kit has the amount of yarn the pattern calls for. Dye lots vary from batch to batch, and I can't always match a specific lot later, so it's better to order extra now if you'd like to make it larger.
How do I care for my finished cowl?
Easy! Our yarn is superwash merino, so you can machine wash your cowl inside out in cool water and tumble dry on low. Lace and mosaic hearts look their best after blocking. All of our yarns are 100% fine superwash merino wool from Australia, spun and dyed in Italy.
How soon will my order ship, and what does it cost?
I pack and ship orders within one business day, six days a week including Saturday mornings. They go out by USPS Ground Advantage from Oceanside, California, so delivery time depends on USPS and where you live. Shipping is free on US orders over $75 and $5 on smaller US orders, and you'll get a tracking email when your order is on its way.
Can I return my yarn?
Unused items in their original condition can be returned within 30 days of receiving them. Email hello@eweewe.com with your name and order number and I'll take care of you. If something arrives damaged or isn't what you ordered, let me know right away and I'll make it right.
