Knit the Ewe Heart Socks: A Sweet Toe-Up Lace Sock Pattern

Is it cold where you are? It’s a bit chilly and drizzling here today—the kind of weather that practically begs for a cozy chair and a new project. 🌦️

While puppy snuggles 🐕 and a hot pot of soup 🍲 always warm my heart, nothing beats the feeling of soft wool sliding through my fingers. If you’re looking for a project that’s as sweet as a box of chocolates (but lasts much longer!), let me introduce you to the Ewe Heart Socks.

Ewe Heart Socks knitting pattern with a Fleegle Heel

Why You’ll Love the Ewe Heart Socks

Designed by Meaghan Schmaltz, these socks are covered in a delicate "candy heart" eyelet lace. They were inspired by the heart in our own Ewe Ewe logo, making them a truly special pattern in our collection.

Here is why this pattern is a knitter’s favorite:

  • Toe-Up Construction: You can try them on as you go to ensure a perfect fit!

  • The Fleegle Heel: If you dread picking up stitches for a gusset, you’re in luck. This heel uses a clever series of increases and decreases that mean zero picked-up stitches.

  • Customizable Length: Knit them as shorties or take the lace hearts all the way to your knees!

Choosing the Perfect Sock Yarn

For these socks, we recommend our Fluffy Fingering yarn. It’s a 100% merino wool that is incredibly soft against the skin but has the stitch definition needed to make those lace hearts really pop.

Yarn Tip: To get the best results, look for a solid or semi-solid color. This ensures the lace motif doesn't get "lost" in a busy variegated yarn. (I personally love them in Berry or Cotton Candy for that classic Valentine look!)

Getting the Right Fit

Lace knitting is most beautiful when it’s slightly stretched. The Ewe Heart Socks are designed with about 1 inch of negative ease.

How to measure your foot for hand-knit socks:

  1. Circumference: Wrap a soft tape measure around the widest part of your foot (the ball of your foot) while standing.

  2. Length: Place the tape at the back of your heel and measure to the tip of your longest toe.

  3. Pro Tip: Think of it like those metal measuring guides at the shoe store—except you’re doing it in your pajamas!
